PROJECT RESTORATION is an organizational triad with The LAW, CIVIC, READING and WRITING INSTITUTE, SANKOFA- US and BOOC. LCWRI, a “Think and Do Tank” that provides first class research and scholarship and shares their findings with the State of Illinois and other stakeholders that seek to better understand the psycho-emotional state of Black and African American youth.
LCRWI, under the direction of Dr. Stan Howard is joining with Sankofa US and BOOC, aims to utilize the information and data gleaned from years of study and research concerning the problem, plight, and path of young BIPOC people. This collegial and courageous collaborative will name, address and redress the cause and effect of chronic and sustained trauma caused by racism and anti-Black and Brown sentiments in American society.
Project Restoration operates off of a Sankofa model (a word of the Akan Speaking People that means, "We can always return to our roots and gather what we need to move forward "). The Project Restoration program couples intensive class and communal time with an inward exploration by journeying through a Return Experience in Ghana West Africa. This informative, yet transformative experience will imbue the participants with a sense of discipline, dignity and determination that will evidence itself at school, home, community and beyond.
